Singapore Red Cross, represented by Lim Kwang Keat, Hans Cheong and Ibu Fara Roslan came to witness the Handover from Yayasan Dinamik Sistim YDS), the Acehnese implementing partner of Life! Community Development(LCD) of Singapore to the village of Meunasah Karieng.
The village headman Pak Kecik Abu Bakar led the village in celebrating the bountiful harvest of over 4.5 tons of rice yield per hectare for the 20 hectares that the project sought to restore to full agricultural
capacity.Women, children and men all came out to support this event.
The village is a warm and friendly community with 4 excellent cooperative (kelompok) leaders that made sure everyone put in their fair share of hard work in the project. Recognition was given to these four leaders as well as the 2 best farmers. After mechanized poughing of the land was done, the villagers rebuilt fences, planted trees, sowed, transplanted and raised the rice crop to harvest and husking!
Every family that participated in this project is given a Certificate of Participation, they are the true honorees of this happy event!
The project donated 2 water pumps, trees, fencing material, seeds, seedlings, fertilisers and pesticides, tools and all that was necessary to rejuvenate agriculture. The pumps that helped irrigate the land when rain was below normal was new to this village.
YDS team of Burhan, Jun and Bakri were tops in coming alongside the community to move the project forward, introducing new methods such as the water pumps, new fertilisers to augment traditional Acehnese methods.
Both men and women from over 100 households worked hard, the women traditionally do all the transplanting of the seedlings. Men do the ploughing, and harvesting.
